Saint Clements Danes
Nathaniel Sparks (1880 – 1956) won a scholarship to The Bristol College of Art and Science. In 1900, a further scholarship brought him to the Royal College of Art, London. In 1905 he received a Diploma in Decorative Painting from the Royal Academy and was made an Associate of the Society of Painter-Etchers, becoming a full member in 1910. Except for the two war years, 1917 and 1918, Nathaniel Sparks had an unbroken record of exhibiting at the Royal Academy from 1909 to 1937. It is interesting to note that Queen Mary purchased at least two of his prints: ‘The Shadow and the Shade’ and, in 1915, ‘Westminster Abbey seen through the Fountain'. Saint Clements Danes, City of Westminster, London, etching 1909, signed. Plate size: 36cm high x 23.5cm.
