Touchstone, Audrey, and William
Touchstone (clown/Jester), Audrey, and William in Shakespeare's As You Like It, act V, scene 1. Watercolour by Frederick Holding (1817-1874) of Manchester, created illustrations for books including Southey's ‘Battle of Blenheim,’ in 1864. In his later years, he was a scenic artist at the Theatre Royal and the Prince's Theatre, Manchester. Pen and watercolour ‘Leah’ dated 1874 by William Edward Frost (1810-1877) was the most important follower of William Etty. Trained in the Royal Academy Schools and exhibited at the Royal Academy. The Poluski Brothers (Music hall Stars) by Frederick J Carter A.R.E. (1883-1967), watercolour and pencil, signed and inscribed under the mount ‘If I Were on the Boards’. Going Fishing
Fisherman and a horse and cart in a town watercolour (section stained), signed and dated 1808, by Peter La Cave (1769-1811) was a painter of rustic figures and landscapes in the Bergham tradition, who was probably a member of a family of French artists working in Holland. He was in England from at least 1789 till 1816 and painted many views of Worcestershire, Berkshire, Devonshire and the area around Wilton where he was in prison in 1811. In 1801 he is recorded as showing two works at the Royal Academy Examples of his work may be seen at the Museum of London. Framed size: 35cm high x 40cm.

Hunchbacked Boy on Crutch
lya Yefimovich Repin (1844 – 1930). Framed, signed, pencil sketch on paper, preparatory sketch of a hunchbacked boy on crutch, for Repin`s, `Krestny Khod (Religious Procession) in Kursk Gubernia`, 1880-1883, which resides in State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow. There are several preparatory sketches of this figure, including a detail oil, titled `Hunchback`, 1881. The boy is leading the left side of the procession, which depicts the icon of `Our Lady of Kursk` being carried from Korennaya Monastery to the city of Kursk, followed by a diverse array of social classes and characters, 32.5cm x 24cm. Provenance: Sold with accompanying letter of authenticity from the Helsinki Atheneum Art Museum, dated 1945, signed Torsten Stjernschantz, Collections curator 1919-1952.

Liborio Prosperi ('Lib') a.k.a. Liberio Prosperi (1854 – 1928), was an Italian-born artist who belonged to a group of international artists producing caricatures for the British Vanity Fair magazine. He contributed 55 caricatures between 1885 and 1903, signed 'Lib'. His 1886 multi-portrait caricature The Lobby of the House of Commons is on view in the Victorian Gallery of the National Portrait Gallery in London. Watercolour signed ‘Lib’ and dated 1888. Peter the First
Charles Karl costume design; From 1885 to 1934, C. Karl was one of the most prolific designers of the time, as adept at designing historical productions for the great actor-managers as creating musical comedies. He worked at the costume makers Nathan’s, who provided costumes for a wide range of stage shows, notably musical comedies. These were on widely diverse subjects and called for dozens of lavish costumes, ranging from shop girls to royalty, gypsies to heiresses, street clothes and military uniforms. Mother and Babies Studies
Théophile Alexandre Steinlen (1859 – 1923) frequently referred to as just Steinlen was a Swiss-born French Art Nouveau painter and printmaker. In the early 1890s, Steinlen's paintings of rural landscapes, flowers, and nudes were being shown at the Salon des Indépendants. Steinlen became a regular contributor to Le Rire and Gil Blas magazines plus numerous other publications including L'Assiette au Beurre and Les Humouristes, a short-lived magazine he and a dozen other artists jointly founded in 1911. Between 1883 and 1920, he produced hundreds of illustrations. Today, his works can be found at many museums around the world including at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., United States.
